Finding the best kids Apps

Most of our kids are fascinated by technology and want to play all the latest games and apps. Maybe you’re tempted to pass the iPhone back to your kid when you are stuck in traffic or in an interminable line.  The problem is knowing which apps are worthwhile, and taking the time to find the jewels.

Mind Leap does that for you.  They point you to apps that are both educational and entertaining for kids in grades PreK-Middle School.  Apps are organized by grade level and subject (math, science, language arts, music…).  And the company was started by a good friend of mine, so please check it out & pass it along…

PEAKS & VALLEYS:

Valley

Today it was the 5:30-6:30pm hour – made even worse by the time change. I was attempting to make dinner for me & my husband, as I din’t get to it earlier in the day.  I thought since I had fed, bathed, read stories and fed the kids again (more goldfish and Cheerios, please, Mom….) that they could play nicely by themselves for fifteen minutes before Dad got home. Nope… as I was basically burning the sauteeing onions on the stove, one was begging for more milk, one wanted me to help her in the bathroom and the baby was standing on the kids table crying because he knows how to climb up but can’t get down!  Chaos. So many needs to be met at once.  I love them all, but this was definitely the bewitching hour and a point in the day where I really have to try hard to remain patient and calm.

I love seeing the kids memories in action – whether it’s memorizing the Pledge of Allegiance or learning a new word like, “actually”.

Today I was telling our four year old that we were going to have to get up early on Thursday for our big trip to New York.  She said matter-of-factly, “Oh, like when we went to St. Thomas with Nanny and Grandy?” – Yes, exactly – but that was about 12 months ago… how do they remember this stuff?
